The environmentally friendly manufacturing process is part of our responsibility. That's why we choose our supply chain partners carefully, paying attention to their values of reduced waste generation, ethical and well-paid work. Being open about where we source our materials and how we create our garments is fundamental to our philosophy. Our products have the following certifications:
Where do my clothes come from?
Caracol's organic t-shirts are made from 100% organic cotton with GOTS certification. "The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the world's leading textile processing standard for organic fibers, which includes ecological and social criteria, backed by independent third-party certification of the entire textile supply chain." Organic fibers are natural fibers grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, insecticides or herbicides and GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) according to the principles of organic farming. Organic agriculture is a production process that maintains the health of ecosystems, soils and people. Caracol's organic T-shirts are a blank product of Stanley & Stella, a sustainable brand from Belgium. The blank product comes from Bangladesh. Stanley & Stella works hand in hand with the Fair Wear Foundation, which translates into its commitment to labor standards that protect the right to safe, dignified and properly paid employment.
Our partner factories in Latvia and the U.S. print our designs on these T-shirts using water-based, non-hazardous, toxin-free, biodegradable, vegan inks that are certified with the OEKO-TEX Ecological Passport. (2)
The sleeveless T-shirts are manufactured in accordance with the industrial and federal requirements of the U.S. CPSIA. Our supply chain partners share a vision around environmental and social responsibility.
T-shirts produced by Bella and Canvas are cut in Los Angeles, California (USA) and then shipped to Central America for sewing. Bella and Canvas is a U.S. apparel company that prioritizes sustainability by limiting and filtering its water supply, saving energy and recycling leftover fabric. Blank products are sourced from Nicaragua, Vietnam, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico or the USA from selected factories that share WRAP's (Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production) specific values of environmental and social responsibility.
Our partner factories in Latvia (Europe) and the USA print our designs on these garments using water-based, non-hazardous, toxin-free, biodegradable, vegan inks that are certified with an OEKO-TEX eco-passport.
All over prints
Garments with "all over" printing are printed, cut and sewn by hand at our supply chain partners' facilities in Latvia, Europe, Mexico and the USA.
The inks used to print the all over prints meet CPSIA requirements for non-toxic substances.
The textiles used for crop tops, tank top slim fit, sports bra and yoga leggings are made of polyester/spandex and are sourced from China and Lithuania. They are certified by the Latvian Certification Centre to be toxic free and meet ISO quality standards.
The compression leggings are made, on the upper side, from toxic-free polyamide/spandex fabric certified ÖKO-Tex Standard 100 (3). The lower part is made of white polyester/spandex fabric from Italy and Spain.
The compression straps are made of toxic-free polyester/spandex fabric certified ÖKO-Tex Standard 100 (3). The lining is made of polyester spandex mesh, and the removable pads are made of recycled polyester also certified Öko-Tex Standard 100 (3). The blank fabric is sourced from Spain, China, Germany, Taiwan or Turkey.
Both the compression leggings and compression bra offer a sun protection factor of UPF +50, certified by Eurofins.
Packing and hangtags
Being environmentally friendly doesn´t only refer to the garments themselves but to the rest of the processes taking part on the logistics till you receive your new leggings. Therefore we have chosen recyclable packaging and hangtags made of Blue Angel certified cardboard printed in offset with non-petroleum based inks. Moreover, our hang tags are secured with ECOTACH bio-PP fasteners (4). For more details keep reading.
Our packaging is 100% recyclable, ROHS 3 (EU 2015/863) compliant low density polyethylene, which means our bags contain no hazardous materials. More information at: https://www.rohsguide.com/
Caracol is a hangtag free brand. Orders placed on our onlineshop are sent free of hangtags. This is to generate less waste. But, our distributors sometimes require the use of hang tags for the correct management of their business. We only attach hang tags when they request it and we want them to be as environmentally friendly as possible. In these cases, our hang tags are made of Blue Angel certified cardboard printed in offset with non-petroleum based inks. The Blue Angel is the German federal government's eco-label that sets high standards for environmentally friendly product design. More info here: https://www.blauer-engel.de/en
ECOTACH bio-PP fasteners
They are made from a proprietary blend of polypropylene material specifically designed to biodegrade in less than a year once it reaches or enters the soil, leaving no harmful substances behind. The technology used means that no microplastics are left behind, so that when a sewing thread degrades, only carbon dioxide, water and microbes (biomass) are left behind. In comparison, the degradation of a conventional polypropylene fastener would take 20 to 30 years, depending on environmental conditions.
